My latest BMW purchase, 540 IL Sport

My step dad and I bought a 2002 BMW 540 IL not too long ago, probably last September. We started looking around and we found this great 540 that was in great shape with about 70,000 miles on it. It is an absolutely great looking car. The first time I drove it, I got going about 130 miles an hour on  the Boulder Denver Turnpike and this car is rock solid at that speed. I immediately made good use of it, and I am hear to tell you as a college kid, that it makes a great date car.

Tell us your story of your current BMW.

Yeah, I bought the 540I Sport myself back in 2002 brand new. I thought about getting the M-5, but the extra money didin’t seem justifed. When I test drove the Sport, it seemed more than fast enough for my use. I’ve had it now for amost 8 years, and not much has gone wrong. Had to fix the air conditioning switch that cost me around $300 or so. My favorite thing about the 540i is the growl it makes when I step on it. It’s about as close to a muscle car as BMW gets. The way the thing is geared makes it much different than the standard 540i. It doesn’t get the best mileage, but I just don’t care.

Glad to hear there’s another happy 540i owner.

I used to own a earlier 540i, but have since moved on to a newer 3 series car. It is much more refined than the mid 90’s 540. But I do miss the power of the V-8. Also it took me awhile to get used to the Chris Bangle look of my car. But, I’m fine with it now. I guess Chris Bangle has moved on to other interest was the last thing I read. I also read that the guy replacing him, can’t remember his name, is even more radical that Mr. Bangle. What will the next generation BMW’s look like? My guess is that they’ll even be more weird looking.
